Matthew N. Tsocanos, Esq.
Matthew N. Tsocanos received his undergraduate degree from Rutgers University and attained his Bachelor of Arts in history as a member of the Phi Alpha Theta National History Honors Society. Matt received his Juris Doctorate from Seton Hall University School of Law in 2002. He is licensed to practice in New Jersey, New York, and the Federal District of New Jersey. Matt is certified by the New Jersey Supreme Court as a matrimonial law attorney.
Prior to entering private practice, Matt served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Daniel M. Waldman, Judge of the Superior Court, in the Chancery Division, Family Part, Monmouth County, New Jersey. As an attorney at Laterra & Hodge, LLC, Matt is committed to the profession of law. Since serving as a judicial law clerk, Matt has practiced family law exclusively. His focus and expertise includes divorce, child custody and parenting time, domestic violence, relocation, post judgment modification, arbitration, mediation, pre-nuptial agreements, child support for high wage earners and complicated interstate and international jurisdictional issues, including emergent appeals and appellate practice.
Matt additionally provides mediation services, and is qualified to serve as a Rule 1:40 mediator. Matt is qualified by the New Jersey Supreme Court to practice in the Court’s Program for Mediation of Economic Aspects of Family Law Cases. Matt is on the Court’s roster of attorneys approved to mediate all economic aspects of family law cases in all Northern New Jersey counties.
Matt can not only mediate family law cases but his training as a mediator can assist litigants going through the mediation or settlement process. He also serves as a panelist for the Bergen County Matrimonial Early Settlement Program (MESP) where experienced matrimonial lawyers volunteer their time to help people going through a divorce try to settle their financial issues.
Matt is an active member of the New Jersey State Bar Association Family Law Section and the Bergen County Bar Association. Matt was a member of the Seton Hall Inns of Court and has participated in the Northern New Jersey Family Law Inns of Court.
